Radio Regulations & Ship's License

The Service of the Ship Station is under the supreme authority of the Master or any Responsible person for the Ship / Station . The person must ensure that the station is operated according to the relevant requirement in the appropriate Radio Regulations.

Ship'' s  Radio License :-

The Radio License is issued by the Ministry of Communication , Department of Trade or Industry or  other Government Authorities.

Note ;- The license gives the following info and should be displayed near the Radio Equipment...
  1. Name od the Ship / Craft / Radio room
  2. Call Sign / ID number
  3. Name of the Owner
  4. Public Corresponding Category
  5. Transmitters - Output Power / Frequency
  6. The condition under which the station is to be operated
all the radio equipment & licences may be inspected by surveyers with regular interval of time...

There are four Class of Certificates for Personnel manning GMDSS Stations:-

  1. First Class Radio Electronic Certificate ( REC )
  2. Second Class Radio Electronic Certificate ( REC )
  3. General Operator Certificate (GOC )
  4. Restricted Operator Certificate (ROC )
Identification Signals ;-

Name - MV ASHISH  / or the name of coast station like MUMBAI PORT RADIO
CALL SIGN - PH7G
MMSI - 123456789

Note - In a Vessel MMSI No the first 3 digits indicate the flag of the vessel.

Inmarsat Identification Numbers;-

Inmarsat B -  this will be 9 digit no starting with 3
Inmarsat C -  this will be 9 digit no starting with 4
Inmarsat M -  this will be 9 digit no starting with 6
Inmarsat mini M -  this will be 9 digit no starting with 76
Inmarsat Fleet -  this will be 9 digit no starting with 76

Note - The Maximum power output of a ship's transmitter on MF is 400 W , HF is 1.5 W and VHF is 25 W
